Hanshow among Representative Vendors for Smart Shelf Technology

Recently, Gartner® officially released the Market Guide for Smart Shelf in the Retail Store [1](hereinafter referred to as “the report”), providing industry decision-makers with a guiding reference for the smart shelf market. Hanshow, with its digital store solutions, was included in the report as one of the 19 Smart Shelf Representative Vendors globally. Notably, Hanshow is one of only three vendors mastering both Electronic Shelf Labeling (ESL) and Shelf-edge Computer Vision (Shelf-edge CV) technologies.

We believe this recognition highlights not only Hanshow's technical strength but also serves as strong proof of the company’s leading position and extraordinary innovation capabilities in driving the intelligent transformation of the retail industry.

According to the Gartner® report, “The market for smart shelf technologies, including ESLs and shelf-edge CV-based solutions, is poised for significant growth in the next 12 to 18 months.”

“According to the 2025 Gartner CIO and Technology Executive Survey, 53% of retailers polled expect to increase their smart shelf technology investments in 2025 compared to year-ago levels, while another 35% plan to maintain their 2024 investments level,” and furthermore “Gartner expects the revenue opportunity of computer vision in the retail store, including smart shelf technology, to reach $12.8B in 2031, growing at a 10-year CAGR of 13.6%. This excludes additional opportunities for closed-circuit TV (CCTV)/video surveillance revenue.”

The report mentioned the future development of shelf-edge CV technology, emphasizing its ability to significantly enhance operational efficiency and improve overall economic benefits for businesses.

One of the most significant benefits of shelf-edge CV is its ability to automate store inventory management [and] CV solutions can accurately and efficiently track product quantities, identifying low stock levels and out-of-stock items in real or near-real time. In addition, the myriad use cases it can enable at the shelf provide retailers with unmatched visibility into stock levels in the store. This results in rich D&A on inventory levels, sales trends and customer preferences, offering e-commerce-like intelligence for physical store operations.

Against the backdrop of economic recovery and the push for store digitalization initiatives, the emergence of new ESL communication standards and edge computing represent key trends in the smart retail shelf market in recent years. Products offered by ESL and CV technology providers are highly scalable, supporting more complex application scenarios such as automated shelf monitoring, out-of-stock detection, compliance with shelf planograms, and shelf data analysis. These two technologies can be deployed collaboratively or independently to meet the diverse and complementary needs of retailers.

Hanshow's self-developed High-Density Low Power Consumption (HiLPC) wireless communication protocol is characterized by high efficiency and precision in applications such as dynamic pricing, product location, and product information management.

In addition, Hanshow's AIoT solutions include inspection robots, AI cameras, and supporting software services that monitor a wide range of information such as out-of-stock items, shelf displays, and food spoilage. These solutions enable real-time data storage and analysis, helping store decision-makers streamline product management workflows and optimize store operational efficiency.

In the previous Gartner® Hype Cycle™ for Retail Technologies, 2024[2] Hanshow was recognized as a Sample Vendor in the Smart Shelf category, as well as in the Hype Cycle™ for Wireless Technologies, 2024[3] for its Bluetooth ESL technology.

We believe these recognitions reaffirm Hanshow's efficient, reliable, and comprehensive digital store solutions, which contribute to driving the retail industry's digital transformation with superior service and innovative technological capabilities. Looking ahead, Hanshow will continue to focus on user-centric innovation, empowering the successful digital transformation and upgrade of the retail industry and paving the way for a sustainable and high-quality future for retail development.
