Madrid, September 2, 2026 — Hanshow, a global leader in digital store solutions, is supporting Alcampo in advancing more digital and sustainable store operations through the deployment of electronic shelf labels (ESLs) across its supermarket network in Spain.

Alcampo, part of the Auchan Retail Group, is one of Spain’s leading food retailers, operating 507 stores nationwide across hypermarket and supermarket formats. In 2026, Alcampo plans to roll out more than 560,000 Hanshow ESLs across 84 supermarkets, replacing traditional paper labels at scale.
The initiative is expected to eliminate the use of approximately 1,843 kilometers of paper price strips each year, preventing an estimated 8.4 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually. It supports Alcampo’s broader efforts to reduce resource consumption and advance its decarbonization commitments. Since 2017, the retailer has reduced annual paper consumption by more than 6,700 tonnes across its stores, offices and logistics platforms.
Beyond its environmental benefits, the ESL solution provides a real-time, centrally managed platform for pricing and shelf-edge communication, creating a more connected digital foundation at the shelf. This helps ensure that product information remains accurate, consistent and up-to-date across stores. By automating routine shelf-label updates, store teams can spend less time on repetitive manual tasks and more time supporting customers and other value-added store activities.
The ESL solution will be used across both ambient and fresh food departments, including frozen products, with dedicated models designed for low-temperature environments. In addition, larger-format labels will be deployed on traditional service counters.

“The introduction of electronic shelf labels represents another step forward in the transformation of our stores. It enables us to make progress in three areas of key importance for Alcampo: reducing paper consumption, making in-store processes more efficient, and allowing our teams to dedicate more time to what really matters: serving our customers,” said Eduardo Latorre, Director of Commercial Concepts, Franchises and Technical Operations at Alcampo.
“As retailers seek to balance sustainability, efficiency and customer expectations, digital shelf infrastructure is becoming an increasingly important foundation for long-term store transformation,” said Simin Hu, General Manager, Eastern & Western Europe at Hanshow. “We are proud to support Alcampo as it continues to advance its sustainability and digital transformation ambitions.”

Building on this initiative, Hanshow will continue working with Alcampo to advance more digitalized, efficient and sustainable store operations, supporting the retailer as it evolves its stores for the future.
